Who does your facial fillers makes a difference

With the popularity of Botox® and facial fillers, it seems everyone is hanging out their shingle to administer these injections. If you go to your local spa for a cleansing facial or a massage and they're promoting facial injectables, ask yourself, what are the qualifications of the injectors?

In the right hands,
injectables can sculpt the face

“Facial injectables can do more than just fill voids,” says Dr. Rappaport. “A plastic surgeon can actually sculpt your face with Botox and facial fillers.

“Be aware of who is administering your facial injectables,” he advises. “It's important that they're not just injecting the material, but injecting it in a location that will be of benefit to you.”

Botox Cosmetic:
More than relaxing your frown lines

Most people think of Botox as a way to relax the frown lines between the eyebrows. But with his advanced knowledge of facial musculature, Dr. Rappaport can also use Botox to:

  • Relax crow's feet around the eyes
  • Lift the corners of the mouth
  • Reduce “cobblestoning” of the chin
  • Diminish lipstick bleed lines

Facial fillers:
Beyond treating those ‘parentheses’

You've probably seen the commercials about using facial fillers to smooth out the nasolabial folds from your nose to the corners of your mouth. But in Dr. Rappaport's hands, facial fillers can do so much more to help you look younger.

Dr. Rappaport uses Radiesse® in the cheekbone region to give more substance to the mid-face, to treat “marionette lines” from the corners of the mouth to the chin and to reduce the appearance of jowling. “And with Juvéderm®, I can reduce smoker's lines and make the lips look naturally fuller,” he explains. “By adding a bit of Botox, I also relax the lip muscles just slightly to help the filler last longer.”

‘It's better than having surgery—
and touch-ups take only 15 minutes!’

“Anne,” a 47-year-old teacher, first came to Dr. Rappaport to treat the dark hollows under her eyes. “I looked tired all the time,” she recalls. Dr. Rappaport treated Anne with Radiesse to smooth out her under-eye “tear troughs.” “It looks so natural—and I don't have to have surgery!” she says.

“Dr. Rappaport does a really good job; I wouldn't trust anyone else poking under my eyes,” Anne laughs. “I talked to other doctors about it beforehand. Dr. Rappaport is honest about the results of the procedure, and he doesn't overdo it.”

Anne has a quick touch-up treatment every few months and is very pleased with her new look. “It makes me happy,” she says. “It makes me feel good about myself. One friend came up to me and said, ‘Don't you ever age?’”

She also has had Botox treatments with Dr. Rappaport. Then, at an open house, Anne won a Botox treatment from another provider. “So I went ahead and let this other doctor do it—and it looked horrible,” she admits. “You couldn't even tell I'd had Botox! It made me wonder if he'd watered it down.

“After that, I decided I was only going to let Dr. Rappaport do my Botox,” says Anne. “He uses a special technique that lifts the outer edge of my eyebrows, and my face looks really good. Now two of my girlfriends are going to Dr Rappaport too.”

Ask Dr. Rappaport

Do you numb the area before injecting facial fillers?

Yes. The anesthetic I use depends on the area I'm treating. I mix local anesthetic with Radiesse and use fine-gauge needles to make the treatments more comfortable. This may eliminate the need for anesthetic blocks.

Before treating the lips with Juvéderm, I use a topical anesthetic and a regional anesthetic block to numb the area. For the nasolabial folds, I normally use just a topical anesthetic.”
