Injectable Fillers

Soft tissue fillers are medical compounds that work by replacing lost volume. They are generally considered temporary, semi-permanent or partially permanent, since the results of treatment will diminish over time. Permanent fillers may seem attractive, however, they may not be desirable for the long term because your face is always changing as the result of aging and weight fluctuation.

The important consideration when considering injectable fillers is to choose a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist. While the treatments are easy, the results practically instantaneous, and with little or no down time, everyone has different anatomies. Therefore, Dr. Rappaport will determine the best filler or combination of fillers for you, as well as the placement of the injections.

Who is a candidate?

Anyone who is bothered by deep wrinkles and deep folds in the skin, such as frown lines and crows feet or who wants to plump up the skins structure. The treatments are contra- indicated in the presence of infection at the proposed injection site.

How is it done?

Dr. Rappaport will give you a topical anesthetic or inject a local anesthetic agent to numb the region. The area will be cleaned and he will mark your injection sites.

Recuperation

As with any injection, you may notice temporary redness, slight bruising, and tenderness around the treatment sites. These are normal occurrences and should clear up within a few days. If redness and swelling lasts for more than a few days, report any symptoms to Dr. Rappaport's nurse. Avoid excessive sun or heat exposure or alcohol within the first 24 hours if symptoms are present.

Most people feel comfortable in resuming their normal activities following treatment. Make-up may be applied a few hours after treatment if no complications are present.
