Men: Want to improve your appearance—
with very little downtime?
Looking younger and more robust can give you the edge
- Be more competitive in today's job market
- Go beyond what diet and exercise alone can do
- Be more attractive to women
Do you look as young as you feel? Even if you feel as young as you did 20 years ago, others won't perceive you that way if you have deepening frown lines on your face, a portly double chin or stubborn love handles.
The good news is that it's easier than ever to regain your youthful look—with or without surgery. Even if you can't spare any downtime, Dr. Rappaport offers non-surgical treatments like Botox®, injectable facial fillers such as Radiesse and Juvéderm and clinical skin care treatments that literally can be done on your lunch hour.
Many more men are choosing the needle over the knife
The latest statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery show that injectable “lunchtime” procedures are soaring in popularity among men. Between 1997 and 2008, the number of men's Botox treatments increased a remarkable 4,169.2%. American men received 225,099 Botox treatments in 2008 alone.
Who does your injectables is critical
“There's a real difference when you have your injectables done by a skilled physician, rather than by a less-skilled injector,” says Dr. Rappaport. “My knowledge of anatomy and appreciation of aesthetics allow me to give you a very natural look.
“You have to be careful with men's Botox treatments so you don't drop the brow,” Dr. Rappaport explains. “Men's brows are usually flatter than in women. The latter 1/3 peak in women is a sign of beauty. In men, it tends to make them look feminine or surprised. You need to be a little more judicious in the use of Botox and its placement to avoid malposition of the brow that may be acceptable in a woman, but wouldn't be in a man.
“But you don't want to drop the brow too low,” he adds. “You still want to maintain animation. Basically, we're concentrating in the central forehead, just above the root of the nose—an area called the glabella—to try to reduce the power of the corrugator and procerus muscles and avoid both the horizontal and transverse creases.”
Clinical skin care helps you look younger
Dr. Rappaport's office also offers several other non-surgical rejuvenating treatments:
- An IPL (intense pulsed light) photofacial is a lunchtime skin procedure that uses concentrated, filtered light to rejuvenate your skin, getting rid of the “reds and browns” caused by sun exposure and aging.
- Microdermabrasion is a rapid method of exfoliation designed to treat rough or uneven skin texture, reduce fine lines and lighten red and brown spots and scars.
Want a permanent solution to unwanted hair?
Laser hair removal can free you of unwanted hair on your back or virtually anywhere else on your body. This lunchtime treatment quickly treats large areas of the body at a time.
Facial plastic surgery gives men
a younger, natural look
“The most popular surgical procedures for men in my practice are eyelid surgery, brow lift and nose reshaping,” says Dr. Rappaport. “Men tend to age well, but many have issues around the eyes and are concerned about how they look. My male patients who have these procedures often consider liposuction of the neck or a facelift farther down the line.”
Dr. Rappaport is very conservative with male plastic surgery. “I use techniques that produce subtle results, while preserving a masculine look,” he explains.
Liposuction trims what diet and exercise can't
“Men tend to accumulate weight at the waist and abdominal region,” says Dr. Rappaport. “Some guys work out regularly, but just have areas of fatty deposits.”
These men are good candidates for liposuction, a minimally invasive procedure that melts and suctions off stubborn fat deposits that don't respond to diet and exercise.
Liposuction can trim love handles, get rid of excess fat under the chin, and slim the abs—but it isn't a cure-all. “For heavier guys, liposuction can improve contour, but it's a body-contouring procedure, not a weight-reduction procedure,” Dr. Rappaport explains.
Male breast reduction treats gynecomastia
Gynecomastia, a condition where the male breast is enlarged by excessive glandular tissue, affects up to 60% of men. Male breast reduction surgery can give you a chest that is flatter, firmer and better contoured.
The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reports that 19,124 male breast reduction procedures were performed in 2008, making this the fourth-most-popular plastic surgery procedure among men.
