Is a lined or sagging forehead
making you look older?
- Do you have deep worry lines in your forehead?
- Are your eyebrows sagging over your eyes?
- Is a crease between your eyebrows making you look angry?
You might want to consider a brow lift—also known as a forehead lift.
What is a brow lift?
A brow lift or forehead lift is a plastic surgery procedure that repositions the muscles of the forehead and raises the brow line. This procedure minimizes drooping eyebrows, forehead creases and hooding over the eyes.
How is a brow lift performed?
Brow lifts can be done through several techniques:
- In an open procedure, a horizontal incision is made in the hairline or farther back, depending on your forehead height and scalp hair density.
- In an endoscopic procedure, three small incisions are made to accommodate a tool called an endoscope to guide surgical instruments to the target area. This is similar to arthroscopic surgery.
- In a temporal lift, which corrects only drooping of the outer eyebrow, surgery is performed through an incision at or behind the hairline in the temple, above the ears.
- In a limited-incision foreheadplasty, surgery is performed through an incision in the hair at the temples, combined with an upper eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty incision. This procedure corrects both brow and forehead issues.
Dr. Rappaport answers questions about brow lifts
Isn't a facelift enough to lift a sagging forehead?
“No. A facelift rejuvenates the bottom 2/3 of the face. A forehead lift addresses the upper 1/3 of the face, from the eyebrows to the hairline.”
Can a forehead lift be done in combination with a facelift?
“Yes. I often recommend this combination of procedures—sometimes along with an eyelid lift—to produce the desired results.”
Isn't BOTOX® enough to get rid of the lines on my forehead?
“BOTOX® can relax the muscles that cause those worry lines—but it can't eliminate sagging in your forehead. Think of BOTOX® as a chemical means and a brow lift as a mechanical means to counteract the visible signs of facial aging.
“A forehead lift also produces much longer-lasting results than a BOTOX® treatment, which typically lasts about four months.”
Is a brow lift outpatient surgery?
“Yes. You can have a brow lift performed under general anesthesia, where you will sleep through the procedure, or under local anesthesia with sedation. Your choice may depend on whether you are having just a brow lift done, or having it done in combination with a facelift, eyelid lift or other procedures.”
What results can I expect from a forehead lift?
“A brow lift will help you look naturally rested and refreshed, with more animation in your face.”
